Indonesia has one of the longest school hours in Southeast Asia (often 7 AM to 3 PM). Many students join ekstrakurikuler (extracurriculars) until 5 PM. By the time they change out of their uniform, it is dark. Yet, the sight of students in uniforms at 7 PM in a mall is a symptom of the dual-income family . With both parents working in Jakarta's massive commuter belt (Bodetabek), students are left to their own devices.
