Ben is convinced (against all evidence) that this will be the week she finally sees him as more than a shoulder to cry on. He narrates his own downfall via voiceover, quoting everything from When Harry Met Sally... to obscure French philosophy, as if intellectualizing his pain will make it hurt less.
